What a race last night in Beijing!! Milorad Čavić almost upset Michael Phelps’ medal streak, but Milorad who who was hoping for a Bronze, did better than even HE expected. Although disappointed that he was so close to a gold he was really happy to get a silver next to Michael Phelps. Many journalists are pointing out, it was an historical race and Milorad will always be a part of that olympic history. Good for him!

Just wanted to update you on the Beijing Olympic Tennis matches based on yesterday’s post. Unfortunately the gold medal will be out of reach for Serbia’s Novak Djoković and Jelena Janković. Both did not win in today’s semifinal matches and will not be competing in the Gold-Silver matches tomorrow, however Djoković will still playing for the Bronze. Let’s hope he can get on that medal stand.

Djoković (top) played a great game against Spain’s Rafael Nadal (above) but came up short in the end.

Jelena Janković (above) was defeated in today’s semifinal by Russia’s Dinara Safina and will not be further competing.

It’s the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Serbian tennis athletes, Novak Djoković and Jelena Janković could cause quite splash as top medal contenders in singles and doubles events.
Ana Ivanović would have been in that list but unfortunatley had to withdraw Sunday night due to an inflammation in her right hand that started a month ago. After consulting with her doctor, she made the very tough decision to withdraw. I’m sure it’s a big disappointment for her as she was ranked number one going into the olympics. Jelena Janković who was No. 2 now moves into the top slot ranking.
Today is Day 6 at the olympics and Novak Djoković beat France’s Gael Monfils in the men’s quaterfinals. He will play the semifinal tomorow in hopes of advancing to the medal games on Saturday and Sunday. Novak was ranked No. 3 for men’s singles going into the Beijing Olympics. Djoković is also participating in men’s doubles with teamate, Nenad Zimonjić.
Jelena Janković will be playing tomorrow (Friday, August 15) in the women’s singles quaterfinal round against Russian, Safina Dinara. Safina is ranked sixth so Jelena should be the favorite to win. So let’s cheer her on. And of course in our day and age everyone has a website. If you’re a big tennis fan check out the professional personal websites for Ana, Jelena, and Novak in the links below and for olympic coverage follow the link to NBC’s full online coverage.

I‘ve seen photographer Branislav Kropilak’s photography quite a few times this year circulating the web and I’m really loving his long-exposure photographs of airplane landings. His focus is clearly on industrial themes, from factories, to garages, to trains and more.
