It’s the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Serbian tennis athletes, Novak Djoković and Jelena Janković could cause quite splash as top medal contenders in singles and doubles events.
Ana Ivanović would have been in that list but unfortunatley had to withdraw Sunday night due to an inflammation in her right hand that started a month ago. After consulting with her doctor, she made the very tough decision to withdraw. I’m sure it’s a big disappointment for her as she was ranked number one going into the olympics. Jelena Janković who was No. 2 now moves into the top slot ranking.
Today is Day 6 at the olympics and Novak Djoković beat France’s Gael Monfils in the men’s quaterfinals. He will play the semifinal tomorow in hopes of advancing to the medal games on Saturday and Sunday. Novak was ranked No. 3 for men’s singles going into the Beijing Olympics. Djoković is also participating in men’s doubles with teamate, Nenad Zimonjić.
Jelena Janković will be playing tomorrow (Friday, August 15) in the women’s singles quaterfinal round against Russian, Safina Dinara. Safina is ranked sixth so Jelena should be the favorite to win. So let’s cheer her on. And of course in our day and age everyone has a website. If you’re a big tennis fan check out the professional personal websites for Ana, Jelena, and Novak in the links below and for olympic coverage follow the link to NBC’s full online coverage.

Zdravo, Sasha! Thanks for visiting my site today. I see you’ve posted “our” tennis players. I’ve just watched Novak play against Nadal, and after a valliant fight, he lost, darn!

Bibi, thanks for visiting! Darn it too! I’m in California so I’m 15 hours off from the olympic competitions. I don’t get to see much of the events live, but I will watch a recap online. Let’s hope he will win a medal for bronze, although gold would have been so exciting for him and Serbia.
